About

NV art & antiques Consulting activities are buying, selling, restoring and appraising (mostly) European art and antiques from the 17th to 20th Century.

NV is owned by Nienke Voorhuis. Nienke grew up in a family of antiques dealers in eastern Holland. She holds a doctorandus degree in Art History (MA) of the University of Leiden. In 1995, following in her parents’ footsteps, she opened an arts and antiques gallery in The Hague, neighbouring no less than the famous Noordeinde Palace of Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Nienke works with European art and antiques, her specialization is in antique sculptures. She also has a distinct passion for art from other regions and periods including Asian countries and Pre-Columbian cultures. She has sold to customers from all over the world, from hotel owners in Palau, to members of the Dutch Royal family and the local florist.

To accommodate an online audience and increase scope NV is now based online with office premises in The Hague. Nienke dedicates her time to being an independent consultant in art and antiques, working by appointment only. She buys and sells specific items and advises clients in buying, selling, and restoring of arts and antiques. She also does appraisals and develops courses and workshops. You can benefit from Nienke’s background, experience and wide network of buyers, sellers and restorers by utilising her services.

restoration

Every antique object has its signs of use, its ‘wear and tear’, and sometimes a beautiful ‘patina’. However, not every person can fully appreciate a seventeenth Century painting with a dirty, yellowish varnish or use a 19th Century sofa with a broken leg; such extraordinary items deserve to be in good state. In these cases, NV can inform you about the possibilities of restoration, provide an advice and price offer first, so you can decide for yourself if you wish to restore your piece(s).

appraisals

As an art historian and experienced arts and antiques dealer, Nienke Voorhuis takes pride in informing her clients well. Within twenty-five years, she has studied a vast assortment of objects and written many reports on 17th to 20th Century European pieces of art and antiques, either from clients or her own collection.

Art and antiques appraisals are done to determine the value of objects, based on information such as the artist/maker, background, materials used, sizes and state. When estimating a value, it is essential to understand the difference in market and replacement value. The former is the current price in today’s (auction) market and the latter the cost to acquire a similar item in a retail setting. We provide appraisals and prepare reports for a wide range of purposes like:

– insurance    – market valuation    – inheritance (tax)

– probate (unbiased advice)   – family division   – charity donation
